Virus genome of iridovirus isolates
Iridovirus contain a single linear double-stranded DNA molecule of 89-289 kbp. DNA comprises 12-16% of the particle weight, and the G+C content ranges from about 26 to 60%. All viruses within the family possess genomes that are circularly permuted and terminally redundant. The DNA of vertebrate iridoviruses (the subfamily Alphairidovirinae) is, with the exception of Singapore grouper iridovirus (SGIV), highly methylated, whereas little to no methylation is found within the genomes of the invertebrate iridoviruses (the subfamily Betairidovirinae).
